Our Philosophy

Kids Are Special People is located in the Cathedral of the Rockies and is a licensed and nationally accredited early learning program of the First United Methodist Church. KASP was created to provide a safe, nurturing, Christian atmosphere in which children learn, discover, explorer and grow.

Creative and loving teachers encourage positive self-esteem, independence, problem-solving, communication and socialization skills. We believe a child’s play is their work and encourage cognitive, small motor and large motor activities.

KASP provides a Christian atmosphere of respect and loving appreciation for each child and for the wonders of God’s world. We recognize the unique backgrounds, gifts and differing abilities of all God’s children. Our guiding principle is our name – Kids Are Special People!

Our Goals

  • A safe and loving atmosphere for our children.
  • An environment that promotes a positive self-image.
  • Create a place to practice self-help skills and problem-solving.
  • Promote the development of the whole child: cognitive, physical, social, spiritual and emotional.

We Are A Ministry

Kids Are Special People began in March of 1986 and was created to serve the needs of parents who were members of First United Methodist Church. Twice per week, KASP provided a safe and fun place for children. Over the years, KASP has grown to accommodate the needs of today’s families. We offer quality care for the youngest children, a full day preschool program and an after-school program.

We also serve as a ministry to the community and our own congregation as a way to draw families into the warmth and Christian friendship of First United Methodist Church, Cathedral of the Rockies. KASP parents who are impressed with our emphasis on youth encourage their children to participate in other FUMC activities such as Vacation Bible School, choir, piano lessons, Sunday School and other events.
